FACT AND FIGURES
Hi good looking, my name’s Fag Breath
If you think smoking’s sexy, smile.
Non-smokers say we smell like old ashtrays, especially straight after a cigarette. But we can’t tell. Lifts stink after we’ve been in them, and mint doesn’t really mask the smell on our breath. Our wafting smoke gets up other people’s noses. Hardly a ‘puller’ is it?
Our oral health suffers too. Smokers are more likely to have yellowing teeth, bad breath and hairy tongue. 1 Longer term you are at more risk of gum disease and mouth cancer. 2
Smokers are 3 times more likely to get severe gum disease than non-smokers. This can lead to loose teeth and teeth falling out. 3
9 out of 10 people with mouth cancer are either smokers or chew tobacco. Of 3800 people diagnosed with mouth cancer each year in the UK, 1700 will die of it.4
If you smoke 20 or more cigarettes per day you are 6 times more likely to develop oral cancer. 5
